Redditor u/Kayzen_Creates, however, was quick to point out the new skill Adroit Analysis was overpowered, and Savant players “can get like +8 to hit at level one” on their skills. While a bit similar to the base Rogue class, the Savant appeals to players interested in relying on their cunning rather than magic or brute force. With ingenious minds and the ability to quickly adapt, Savants can take on a variety of professions from archaeology to medicine. When creating the Savant, u/LaserLlama set out to make an innovative non-magical class that changed the way players thought about the game. Many of D&D’s classes, homebrew or base game, rely on the use of magic as part of their skillsets. Nevertheless, this class managed to win runner-up for r/UnearthedArcana’s Best Homebrew Class of 2015. The Shaman is by no means a perfect class, with u/covertwalrus pointing out that higher levels of the skill “Boon of Bolstering seems pretty abusable”. The class features two major subclasses: the Journey of Harmony focuses on healing, while the Journey of Wrath prioritizes combat. As a Shaman, players harness the power of spirits to communicate with the dead and perform various rituals. U/Pattycakeee’s take on the Shaman has gone through numerous reiterations and adjustments in attempts to balance out its features. The Muscle Wizard’s signature spell is ‘Fist’, which allows a character to use either an action or a bonus action to give enemies a single powerful punch. This straightforward class was created by a user known as ‘The Finger’ for the homebrew website Middle Finger of Vecna. On a post polling users for their favorite homebrew classes, u/Coschta put out an answer in two words: “Muscle Wizard”. Wizards and warlocks may be tied for the most powerful class in D&D, but some players and Redditors wonder what would happen if they could use brute force as well as magic. Whether on-par with the base game classes or just existing for memes, these homebrews rank the highest according to Redditors. Reddit, the website usually known for deeply unpopular opinions, has been a hub for some of the best D&D homebrews to date. With the release of the game’s fifth edition in 2014, fans have more tools than ever to develop their own unique classes and skills with the games’ mechanics. In a more colloquial sense, it usually signifies a fanmade class or realm. In the game Dungeons and Dragons, the term ‘homebrew’ refers to content developed specifically for D&D that did not come from one of the official rulebooks published by Wizards of the Coast. D&D 5e: The Best Homebrew Classes, According To Reddit. If you took the time to look through it all, thank you. I don't know how many people will see this, or how popular it could get. I will continue to expand upon the Lunatic, be it new amps or subclasses. I am proud of the work that I have done though, and the fact I have the confidence to share this with a bunch of strangers is something. I haven't play tested it myself yet, so I'm afraid of this class just kinda falling apart in practice. The subclass features may also seem a bit repetitive due to the fact they all share the same structure. I've had trouble thinking of something powerful and valuable enough, while also making sure it isn't directly opposing the ideas and themes of the class. For example, the 20th level feature does not exist as off posting this. This class is far from finalized as things like feature names and damage values are still up in the air. Regardless, I wanted to share this class that I've been working on since the start of February. So if this ends up getting deleted you'll know where else to check it out. I don't know if it's okay to share something like this here, but I've already posted this to places like Reddit too. I would greatly appreciate any feedback you can provide, and feel free to play test too. You can read through it all right here in this Google Doc. The subclasses are known as your Crazed Obsession, and you get to choose your obsession at 2nd level. The main mechanic of the Lunatic are their Psycho Amps, at certain damage thresholds you will unlock features that can buff you or be used. This class is an attempt at creating a choice heavy tank, much like the warlock and artificer. The Lunatic is crazed and psychotic wrapped in a nice blanket of masochism.
